Hey everyone! I’m looking to buy a new gas stove, and I’m split between Elica and Prestige. They both seem popular, but I don’t have much experience with either. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s used them—especially regarding performance and how they handle regular, heavy cooking. Any insights?

I’ve actually used both brands in my kitchen over the years. I had a Prestige gas stove for about 4 years, and now I’ve been using an Elica hob top for the past year or so. Each has its pros and cons, so here’s my honest experience:

  1. Build Quality & Durability: In terms of pure durability, I’d say Prestige has an edge. The body feels solid, and it seems like it’s built to handle a lot of everyday wear and tear. My Prestige stove took quite a bit of use (and abuse) and still worked well until I decided to upgrade. Elica, on the other hand, is more of a stylish option, but I find myself being a bit more careful with it. It’s sleek and modern, but maybe not as sturdy.

  2. Design & Cleaning: This is where Elica shines. If you have a modular or open kitchen, Elica’s glass-topped hobs look really premium. The smooth surface also makes cleaning easier since there are fewer crevices for grime to collect. Prestige models, while sturdy, are a bit more traditional in design. They can be a bit trickier to clean around the burners, especially if you’re a fan of deep-frying or cooking with masalas that tend to splatter.

  3. Burner Efficiency & Heat Control: Both brands offer brass burners, which are great for even heat distribution. However, I’ve noticed that Elica burners have a slightly more even flame, which helps in getting a good heat control for dishes like curries or rice. Prestige is also good but might be slightly less consistent when you’re trying to keep a low flame.

  4. Price Point: Prestige is more budget-friendly. Elica is definitely a premium choice; you’re paying extra for the design and that sleek finish. If aesthetics are important and you’re okay with spending a bit more, Elica might feel worth it. But if you’re prioritizing functionality over looks, Prestige offers excellent value.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Thank you so much for the breakdown! It sounds like both have their strengths. I’ve been eyeing the Elica models because they look amazing, but I’m a bit concerned about the upkeep and repair costs, especially since it has a glass top. Have you had any maintenance issues with yours?

I totally understand where you’re coming from! I’ve had an Elica gas stove with a glass top for over two years, and while it looks fantastic, maintenance is definitely something to consider. Here are some things I’ve noticed:

  1. Glass Top Fragility: Elica glass tops look premium, but they can be a bit delicate. I’d suggest avoiding heavy cast-iron pans or being too rough with it. Once, my friend accidentally dropped a heavy lid on hers, and it cracked. She had to pay a decent amount to get the glass replaced.

  2. After-Sales Service: Elica’s service is a bit hit-or-miss. I live in a big city (Mumbai), so I’ve had decent support. The technicians are knowledgeable, but the parts are on the pricier side. If you’re in a smaller town, I’d advise checking their service coverage before buying.

  3. Cleaning: The glass top is easy to wipe down, but watch out for spills, especially sugary stuff. Once, I spilled some chai on the burner area, and it took a bit of scrubbing to get it back to its shiny state. It’s not a dealbreaker, but something to keep in mind.

If you’re okay with some extra care, the Elica models are great. Just be prepared for potential maintenance costs in the long run!

just wanted to throw in my perspective as someone who’s been using a Prestige gas stove for nearly five years now. Here’s my experience:

  1. Reliability: Prestige stoves are rock solid. I’ve never had any major issues with mine, and it’s handled everything from heavy cooking sessions during festivals to regular daily use. The build feels really sturdy, and I don’t feel like I have to be overly careful while cooking.

  2. Service & Parts Availability: Prestige has an extensive service network, which is a big plus. I had to replace a burner ring once, and the local service center took care of it within a few days. Parts are also widely available, which is reassuring if you plan to keep the stove for a long time.

  3. Design Limitations: While I love the durability, I have to admit that Prestige stoves don’t look as modern as Elica’s glass-top models. They have a more traditional look, and cleaning can be a bit of a task since grime tends to collect around the burners. If aesthetics are important to you, this might be a minor drawback.

All in all, if you’re looking for a no-nonsense, durable gas stove that can handle heavy use, Prestige is a solid choice. But if you want something that’s visually appealing and you’re willing to do a bit more maintenance, then Elica could be worth it

I think people should be aware of drawbacks as well before buying either brand. Here’s what I’ve observed:

  • Elica Cons:

    • Cost of Repairs: Elica repairs can be costly, especially the glass top. If something breaks, like the knobs or the glass itself, replacements can get expensive quickly.
    • Service Availability: Elica’s customer service is fine in metro cities, but it can be slower in smaller towns.
    • Burner Issues: I’ve heard from a few folks that Elica’s burners can sometimes clog up if not cleaned regularly, especially if you cook heavy Indian dishes.
  • Prestige Cons:

    • Less Stylish Design: Prestige stoves are more function-oriented and may not look as sleek if you have a modern kitchen.
    • Cleaning: Prestige burners accumulate grime over time, and cleaning takes some effort. This can be annoying if you’re someone who likes a sparkling kitchen.
    • Limited Features: Compared to Elica, Prestige might feel basic. It doesn’t have the high-end features like auto-ignition or heat-resistant knobs that some premium Elica models offer.

I think it all depends on what you prioritize. If you’re looking for something that’s durable and functional, Prestige might be your pick. If you want that stylish look and don’t mind spending a bit more, then Elica is a good choice.

I recently went through the same dilemma and ended up buying the Elica, mainly because it matched the look I wanted for my new kitchen. It’s been about six months now, and here’s what I’ve noticed:

  • Cooking Experience: I find that the Elica burners give a very controlled flame, which is great for things like tempering spices. I cook a lot of curries, and having that precision really helps.

  • Daily Maintenance: As long as you wipe it down after each use, it stays clean. I use a microfiber cloth to keep the glass top shining. One tip: avoid steel scrubbers as they can scratch the surface.

  • Overall Satisfaction: Honestly, I love it! The maintenance is worth it for me because it adds a touch of elegance to my kitchen. I do agree with others about being careful with the glass, though.

So if aesthetics and ease of cleaning are big for you, go for Elica. Otherwise, Prestige is great for a more rugged, durable experience.
